FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Does everyone need a college counselor?

No. But college applications require a surprising amount of focused work. Some students only consult about the writing.

Is it useful to apply early?

In the fall, Christina discusses this with each student individually. The answer depends on the student's list, their readiness, and the specific schools they're considering.

Do I need to apply to the UC system?

Yes. The UC admissions officers read essays quite alertly, looking for specific information. The UC application has its own set of prompts that require careful attention.

Do people ever not finish their applications in time?

It doesn't happen. Christina works with students to build a realistic timeline and holds them to it.

Will I get into college?

Yes. But you have to apply.

When should we start working together?

Ideally, the summer before senior year. Some students begin in junior year, particularly if they want help developing their writing skills before the application season begins.

How many students does Christina work with each year?

Christina keeps her caseload small intentionally — typically fewer than fifteen students per year — so that each student receives her full attention.

Do you work with students outside the Bay Area?

Yes. Christina works with students remotely via video call. Many of her international students work with her entirely online.

What does the process look like week to week?

Sessions are typically one hour, held weekly or bi-weekly depending on the student's timeline and needs. Between sessions, students write drafts and Christina provides written feedback.

How do I know if Christina is the right fit for my student?

The best way is to have an initial conversation. Christina is happy to speak with students and families before any commitment is made.
